Yet again, Eve online. - by The Alchemist

Only when you have something else to do in the mean time and/or are not carrying valuable cargo.
Otherwise it's better to fly manually as this way you can warp to 0 and jump immediately, whereas the autopilot always warps to 15km and then slowboats towards the gate.
There are various other ways to minimize travel - settle near a market hub or just buy stuff near your current position, even if it's a bit more expensive. Joining a corporation also tends to lessen the need to travel around due to teamwork. You can also change your playstyle - if you want to be a trader and/or a mission runner/miner you can basically stay in the same system all the time.
I have two characters - one of them only leaves the station once every 3-5 days or so, and only to travel 2 jumps and back with his freighter. The other one is a combat character so he tends to travel a bit more, but still not that much.

I'm subscribed now, my character is the Minmater A'Sadar Malindra and I'm making money mining and refining Veldspar in a 0.7 sec system so I can collect the occasional NPC pirate bounty.
Things I like: class-less based RPG system, wide choice in skills, equipment and ships etc all of which are viewable so you can plan your advancement. Some of the agent missions are very tough forcing you to bail out and rethink your ship and/or equipment1.
Things I don't like: Traveling is tedious. Courier agent missions are very dull.
1 I've had 3 tries at one mission that's already cost me one Burst frigate. About to retry it in a Rifter...

Don't forget to join the "ttlg kru" channel. :D It's not always populated and I just learned I'll have to do 5x 12-hour shifts at work in the next 6 days and will also move in to a new flat on monday so I'll barely have time to play for a few minutes. But next week I should be on a bit more often.
You might also want to join (
irc://irc.starchat.net/kru) #kru on Starchat - most of us who play EVE hang out there most of the time and we used to play other games as well in the past (something I'd like to start doing again soon-ish). We can help you get some taste of PVP too. Just don't ask Spitter anything - once he starts talking about EVE, there is no stopping him. :joke:

In this case I suggest you stay away from the various websites which list all missions and often also give tips on how to complete them. Most people agree that the NPC missions are (still) quite boring once you know them all, but if you like to figure them out yourself you can have fun for several weeks or even months before you get bored.
After you do a few of the courier missions to see what they look like, I suggest you don't bother with them anymore - they are REALLY boring and the rewards are puny. Stick with combat - best agents for that are the ones from the Command, Surveillance, Security, Internal Security divisions. Also Administration has a fair bit of combat missions but also a lot of courier ones.

Since when does concept art/renders count as "graphical upgrades"? :weird:

Yep, that's the real deal, I was even doubting that one picture myself too, but after going ingame and checking the ship out, it's the ingame model.
Eve is stunning these days

Would love to get back into this but simply don't have the time. Sigh.

It's the only MMO that's grabbed me long enough to put any time into. I got the free 5 day offer too and out of interest downloaded the latest client. Graphics are very nice, although for some reason certain gates / ships remind me of the Borderlands graphical style.
The amount of time that I suspect it would take to get back up to speed with the game is a little off-putting, and I know from personal experience what a time sink it can be.
