Yet again, Eve online. - by The Alchemist

Oh my!
I used to play this game all the time, and I had a fairly decent number of skill points. I left the game awhile back, giving myself the impression that I didn't find it interesting, but now that I think of it more in-depth, I believe it was because my Mining Barge got killed, it didn't have insurance, and I was frustrated.
So, I used the last 70 million ISK or so that I had to buy some +3 implants, stuck them in my head, and quit the game. :o
I don't know, maybe I'll return to the scene someday... my character would probably be way behind, so perhaps I'd start a new one.
Can't say if it'll ever happen, but if you want to see my former character, search for ' Dottabus '. :p

I've just finished my first Level 2 agent mission and whacked at least 20 enemy NPC frigates, 4 of which almost as strong as my ship. The last enemy was a cruiser, which of course I whacked too. With my humble Tristan frigate, no less :sly:.
That was great fun, the big bastard just wouldn't die, it took me 10 minutes of pounding at him with my blasters and EMP rockets to bring him down. :D
Also, Ulu, I was kinda hoping for a somewhat bigger and more active corp, you know. ;)

So I log on and I hardly see anyone in the channel, so I get bored and log off. This has been my problem with Eve, mostly. I had lost interest after all my rl friends stopped playing. I should join a corp, but the ones I like are either referal only or require 5m sp.
Guess ill abuse of some frigate rats.
Ulukai question: It takes me an ungodly amount of time to lock onto frigates in my battleship, is this just the nature of the targetting systems as they are so small or can the difference be evened out by high skills or something? Not that it matters since frigates tickle my massive armor, but it's obnoxious that they get a full 10 seconds to orbit me going pew pew while I anxiously hover my fingers over my seven cannons awaiting a lockon.

Aren't you supposed to be using drones against such targets?

It would be more efficient than my turrets because of their size advantage giving me a considerably hard time tracking them, but I'm using small turrets because I havent trained in the larger ones yet. And I can only use one drone at a time atm. So yeah certainly, but not exclusively.

There are two attributes you need to look at here:
* The Signature Radius of the ship you are trying to lock
* The Scan Resolution of the ship you are flying
Trying to lock a ship with a tiny signature radius (i.e. interceptor, frigate, shuttle etc.) in a ship with a low scan resolution (Battleship) will result in long lock times. You can lower the lock time by fitting sensor boosting modules to your ship, and also by training the Signature Analysis skill which will reduce lock time by 5% per level of the skill.
It's also possible to fly a ship with remote sensor boosting modules, where you can boost the scan resolution of one of your corp mates by activating special modules, but that's really for advanced fleet tactics and 'snipe' tactics, typically where a n'er do well will camp a gate out of range of the guns ( > 150KM) in a Tempest with 1400mm artillery cannons with one or more buddies sitting alongside boosting the scan resolution of the sniping ship. Nasty.

If I recall correctly, I believe that there are skill books out there that deal specifically with targeting enhancements, and perhaps a few targeting modules for your ship too.
I could be wrong, though. It's been months since I retired from EVE. :erg:

Screw it. I hate watching other people have fun without me, so I'm downloading the client now.
I'll post my screenname and other miscellaneous info when I get home tomorrow.
Oh, and since it has ingame VoIP now, can someone recommend me a good headset?
