How about some sort of thumbs up/thumbs down system on each post? The highest ranked posts would be displayed on the frontpage. (a drawback would be that some of the posts might not make any sense outside the context of the discussion)
Also it would help us show our appreciation of posts without making inane "lol" or "seconded" posts.
