oh sorry, I sometimes forget that we're all total losers that live in our mums basements and dream about one day being able to talk to the opposite sex.

Yes, when I was faced with that all-too-crucial life decision of whether I should have fun, enjoy myself, fall in love, have a career, or spend 30-60 minutes a day on internet forums, I unfortunately chose the latter in that TOTALLY 100% BINARY CHOICE.

I quit listening to the news because it very seldom talks about anything useful or relevant to my life. Frankly, the US government shutdown doesn't bother me much because why should I let it, even if I'm going to feel the effects of it through my dad being furloughed?
Life is short. Worrying about what the news tells you each day is only going to make it even shorter. The saddest thing that could happen to a human being in life is to go from the cradle to the coffin only to realize that he never really lived.
I'm going to make the most of my life while I still have it. You're more than welcome to do the same. Here's a quote from one of my favorite teachers on the subject of self-help and human potential:
"Most people tip-toe through life, hoping to make it safely to death." -- Bob Proctor

Someone on facebook just posted this, made me laugh:

It's like a choice between a far right, authoritarian plutocracy or slightly more insane far right authoritarian plutocracy with added religious references.
I think that says as much about your status as ardent guardianista (I know you don't actually read it but it's the thought that counts) as it does the US political spectrum.
faetal on 2/10/2013 at 12:57
Not sure I agree with your pigeon-holing. The left and right of the political spectrum are pretty well defined. Both US choices are very right of centre. This is compared with UK parties. You don't really know my politics, so try not to sum me up.
Chimpy Chompy on 2/10/2013 at 13:54
That was actually kind of snarky of me, but I don't buy that both parties in america are indistinguishably far on the right, or that a scale that puts them there is particularly useful.
faetal on 2/10/2013 at 14:52
To be more specific - I don't buy that Obama's government is anywhere left of centre. Not sure if that's because he's held hostage by Republican congress or what, but his unequivocal support of drone strikes, detainment without trial, tax breaks for the wealthy, supporting of civilian surveillance and general continuation of all of the post 9/11 BS that Bush and Cheney forced through under the guise of protecting people, seems to suggest that he's just as guided by the same sort of ideology - increase the power of the elite. Yes the Democrats appear to be left of the Republicans, but they're to the right of most of what we'd call the right in most of Europe. That's my point, not that nothing will ever be left enough for me until tanks run on hemp and shoot welfare cheques instead of explosives.

You think so, faetal? I have to say that Cameron's Convservaties and their austerity programme strike me as pretty much out there on the right. Saying that Obama's Democrats are even further to the right strikes me as a tad extreme.
I'm with you all the way on hemp- and cheque-shooting tanks, mind you.
faetal on 2/10/2013 at 15:13
Our austerity program seems to be aimed at catching up with the US though. I'm with you on the fact that the rate of change right now makes Cameron et al seem to be worse, but the actual situation with social spending per capita in the UK is still nowhere near as bad as the US. That said, you have got me thinking - maybe rate is actually more of a factor than current standing. Politics. Such a fucking mess to try and debate :/
