I think that may be it. The US is obviously far more right-of-centre as a system, and it'd be naive to expect any president to be able to turn this system into anything even approaching the European centre any time soon. Doesn't mean that that president or his party is far-right.

Legal Eagles: What are the proper means for resolving a situation like this?
I know in Aus if the house(s) was unable to pass self financing bills a full house election was triggered (but when some non-government majorities used this to force elections on minority governments that part was amended)

For anyone outside the U.S. who wonder why citizens of the U.S. are deeply divided and the government cannot work together for a common good, it's mostly because of lunatics like this and the rhetoric they spew:

The media (news-R-tainment), media personalities, supposed "men of God", and elected representatives constantly bombard us with horseshit that does nothing for bettering the country, but instead taps into deep seated anxiety and down-right hatred for the opposing view of someone else. We're are continuously conditioned by talking heads and the such to no longer simply disagree and debate, but to show contempt and outright attack any that don't see it "our way" within our own country.
Certainly, it's not just the extreme right that are guilty of this. But they certainly are the ones that have turned the manipulation of emotions into a fucking art form.
And I wish I could say that I hate them for that. But, I recognized their right to vomit nonsense everywhere, and fully support their right to do so. To do otherwise would be contradictory to my own belief (and the Constitutional guarantee) for the freedom of expression. I just wish that there was something more along the line of sensibility and substance to their comments than outrageous and inflammatory statements that achieve nothing but riling idiots ups. But, when that's all one has to stand on, then one stands on what gains the most from a listening public whom are sheepish in their thoughts and unwilling (or unable) to rationalize.

His massive expansion of drone use and continuation of tax cuts for the rich seem pretty much to the right if you ask me. I think the current UK government might actually be worse, is kind of what I meant, not that Obama is anywhere left of centre.

I often think that taxes on the rich is a bit of a diversion away from the bigger issue of corporation tax. I do wonder if Obama is imprisoned by Republican congress, but that doesn't matter anyway, a government is the whole thing, not just one person - if Obama can't move anything nearer to centre, then it's a right wing government.
(that said, Obamacare seems to be a step in the right direction, but a universal system would be better than just diverting public money into private coffers, since so much money will be lost as profit)
