Also, not to mention that most manipulation of other nations' allegiances can be more effectively achieved through use of the IMF & world bank. Just read the conditions which are tagged to most development loans - particularly the parts about allowing foreign investment in natural resources. War is no longer as necessary, but it does make a lot of sense if you own shares in any associated industries, as it's a real money mover.
