I will. Thanks! ;)
Excellent!
Personally, I like the caves and all the funky creatures, but I understand why other people might not. If you're for the more traditional maps, I think Thief 2 will be right up your alley. There are the robots to get used to and the last mission is incredibly long (and I found it a bit tedious), but besides that I think you'll enjoy it. Not to mention, there's more than enough FMs to suit your style.

Hello!
Quite a long time ago I played Thief and I was fascinated by it, untill I decided to stop when I became so lost and bored by the underground levels, full of monsters that sort of spoiled the whole atmosphere to me (I felt like I was playing Doom).
I owned also Thief II but I never really started playing it yet because I read somewhere that the levels are even bigger.
Dear taffer, Thief II is your solution. Some levels are extremely big, that's true, but you like when it feels real you said. And The Metal Age owns far less zombies (and not one burrick as far as I know). Maybe you'll like Thief again if you try Thief II. Anyway tis not possible not to LOVE thief :) .

I think Thief 2 is more challenging, especially the later missions which seem to all be set in very brightly lit buildings with electric lights you can't turn off, no dark corners, and marble floors wherever you go!
Its true! A lot of the buildings have electric lights you can't just poof with a water arrow.
And when you walk on marble, it's like Garrett is trying to river dance.

I started considering the idea of starting over with Thief Gold (I have just bought the Thief Collection) and I'd like to ask you guys if this installation (on Windows XP) sounds right to you:
- Game
- DDfix
- Thief Enhancement Pack
- oRGy's Texture Pack / oRGy's mesh patch
Since I never played with modifications before I need to ask you if there is something I should be aware of. I also wonder if Thief Enhancement Pack and oRGy's Texture Pack / oRGy's mesh patch are compatible one with the other?
I am not interested in fan missions but I guess I should still install Darkloader?
I have tried to gather infos here on the forums but didn't find an answer in the pinned topics.
Thanks!

Playing fan missions is what DarkLoader is used for, so I don't see what you would need it for if you don't plan to play FM's.

do yourself a favor and don't to that. Thief Gold only adds 3 new missions and at least one of them is a disgrace to Thief The Dark Project, being a maze, unless you are a masochist and want to spend hours running around through it.

How do you know you won't like the fan missions if you haven't tried them? Its been said countless times, over and over, the fan missions have surpassed the original missions in design, etc. Most FM's are for T2. The OM still have their charm of course. If it wasn't for the FM's Thief would of died years ago, its the FM's that have kept Thief alive.

Thats up to him to decide. Just because you don't like Thief gold many do.

I am not currently interested in fan missions because I plan to play the original ones first. I did not mean to express any opinion about their quality (since I never played any).
Could someone also reply to comment on the rest of the installation?
So far I only understood that I don't need Darkloader.

I tend to dislike big, maze-like levels so I'd be probably disappointed but I only own Thief Gold now so I guess I cannot do much about it.

Yup, many of the fan missions truly surpass the originals. What are there, well over 500 to choose from?
