What was your biggest amount of cash when you played TDS ?
My max was 8.000 gold at one time. But that´s because I never looted everything, I was just looking for the main objectives. And I also didn´t spend much time looting civilians.

Aaarrrggghhh...
I distinctly recall the economy is Deadly being handled in such a simplistic and childish fashion, I never even bothered to pay attention to the loot totals. I do recall seeing strange "powerups" clinging high up on the walls in the city streets...

I distinctly remember having 10,000 on my last XBOX playthrough. No cheating, and I bought the climbing gloves and supplies as needed.

I found almost all the loot, tried to rob as many citizens as possible, and almost bought nothing (just the gloves). I can't remember how much, but I ended up with a lot of loot at the end.

I must say that this question is really moot, since if someone was serious about it, they could just spend forever looting the cityscape since people respawn with cash to pickpocket. So there is potentially an infinite money source.

Actually I think there's a limited amount set to spawn in each city section per day and once you nick all of it people just resawn without loot
I'm not sure about this though as sometimes a lot of loot shows up in ways I've rarely seen, like rich guys with courier bags and stuff.
Anyway, by the end game I've had around 40,000 or so to play with. You can get a ton of money from the museum so its not that tough.

It's not totally moot even if there is a potentially infinite supply because no one is going to spend an actual infinite amount of time to get it. It's more like an endurance contest, who actually sat down and spent the most time to get X loot. If it's a lot they'd have conditional bragging rights, until someone topped them.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure the game makes it feel like an accomplishment though ... Maybe it should have put in some really big ticket items to deal with huge purses, to give something to shoot for. Then the contest would be more like who has the most crystal chandeliers, or who's bought up the most City real estate.
Edit: For that matter, if they really used their imagination beyond just a little city street pickpocketing, it could have been a whole sandbox side-game of becoming the City's biggest robber-baron if you wanted, buying warehouses and ships, building your own cadre of fences (and through them the services of other thieves), bribing domestic and foreign officials, securing contraband supply routes and export trade routes with your own security, etc, and making the operation bigger and bigger ... and then the ability to buy new apartments to live, and decking them out with luxuries, security systems, and guards ... to fend off the police and other thieves. Now that would have been a Thief game par excellence.
I think I just had an idea for a Darkmod project. :sly:

That is indeed true, on a section-by-section basis.
