Whatever happened to V. Equinox? Back in my lurker days I remember she posted a lot. Is this another that was lost to the flood of newbies (which sadly includes me...)

Cold showers, for guys and girls, is supposed to quell passions, not incite them. When you're getting too hot, you go take a cold shower to get things under control.

I don't think anybody was 'lost to the flood of newbies.' I think it's just inevitable that a lot of people eventually lose interest in the forum and move on. Newbies belong here as much as anybody else. Everybody here was once a newbie.

All I know is that right before I joined there was apparently some bad things that happened and a lot of long time taffers left as a result (it all happened during a period when I was not lurking so I don't know the details). I was wondering if she was one of those, since I enjoyed her stuff.
Ah well, best let this one alone

I will admit I had a crush on Garrett when I first played Thief, but I've lost it. Mainly due to the fact that I realize that, even though I'm attracted to moody, mysterious men, I'm also aware of the fact that they are very, very bad for me (in a psychological sense)--so I'm better off avoiding them.
The other thing is, I'm not entirely convinced that he can really care for a woman in a romantic relationship. His relationship with Viktoria in T2 seemed really forced to me. I think he's straight, though, because he was interested in Basso's sister, but he just seems way too selfish or too defensive to be in a relationship that requires a lot of openness and giving. I'm hoping they expand on his character more in T3, and if he is capable of a loving relationship I would like to see that. In T2 it just seemed like his possible crush on Viktoria came out of the blue--I wasn't very convinced.
I also don't think the "right woman" would make Garrett change. He won't change unless he wants to (which is true of most, if not all, people). If he meets Ms. Right, he's more likely going to push her away and lose her to someone else, than he would change who he is. The only way I envision him changing is if he gets fed up with the way he lives--and I doubt if that will happen anytime soon.
And Viktoria's dead. She should stay that way. It would be too hard to bring her back without it looking ridiculous--they bring back dead characters in comic books all the time, and it's irritating. Nobody ever comes back from the dead.
On a very ironic side note, I have a sister that reminds me of Garrett (personality-wise), with no redeeming qualities. I wonder about her sometimes, and I have also tried to get along with her and can't--she's just too selfish. So maybe this is why I am such a cynic about his character.
Wet blanket, anybody?

The quelling of passion is just a bit more...visible with men.

no... actually, I'm not for real... I'm just a figment of someone's sick and twisted imagination... but that's not important right now.
Let me perhaps clarify... there is something intriguing about the "darker side of human nature" that I find compelling. The character Garrett is really a complete mystery, other then robbing the local nobles.
He is a reluctant hero, yet he is completely selfish. Or is it the other way around? Anyway, he wouldn't be nearly as charasmatic if he really sounded more like Karras or Benny, so the voice most certainly adds to the attraction (and yes, I know that the same voice actor plays them all.)
Now, might I just add my disclaimer... would I date someone who shared all the qualities of Garrett... maybe. Would I marry someone with these qualities. Absolutly not. That would be a downright destructive thing to do.
So I married someone dependable, reliable, and loyal, but sometimes a girl just needs a little dark fantasy in her life.

He is a reluctant hero, yet he is completely selfish. Or is it the other way around?I understand, and I do feel the same way you do. I have always had a fondness for antiheroes (is that the right word?), they are usually way more complex than the hero himself (if there is one). I'm especially fond of trying to "figure them out", but at a distance these days. Unfortunately, I tried to figure out a guy who was the mysterious type "in person"--I was young and stupid then--and got very seriously burned. So whenever I read topics like this I can't help but be reminded of what happened.
I would have agreed with you at one point, but my old memories prevent me from enjoying that kind of fantasizing--reality just catches up with me in the end. So these days I think about the kind of guy I want to meet, rather than the one I know wasn't any good for me.

I just got back from vacation, though.
I'm not sure why I post less - just not a whole lot to say that I think people would be interested in.
I am, however, a Plot Monkey for T2X.
