Do girls like Singing Dancing Mooses?

heh heh
All this talk about Garretts sexy voice...
I have been living under the mis-conceptions that:
a) It this the size of your sword/hammer/mace that counts
b)no, its not really the size, its what you do with your sword/hammer/mace that counts
c) Swords/hammers/maces had nothing to do with it, it how much of your pilfered hoards of gold that get spent on presents/holidays/everything for the appropriate person that counts.

Yeah, you just need to practice saying, "Men's ware" in a deep voice an you'll be beating them off with a sh1tty stick.

Ummm... fellas? *tugs at collar whilst turning a deep shade of crimson* No innuendos were intended... I was just enthusiastically answering in the affirmative to Little Taff's question asking whether anybody else thought Garrett would have a heart for romance, at least slightly. *blames all the redness on the colored lighting*
V. Equinox and Little Girl Blue, wow... where were you gals several weeks ago when I was just about the only one saying Garrett had feelings? *laughs* Heheh, nice to have you new folks with us. I like the tragic romance thing too--check out some of the rambling that's been done via a search, and you'll find my long-winded explanation of why I think Garrett and Mosely would be a good couple for an unspoken star-crossed tragic love story. I must warn you, though, if you're not done with Thief don't look at it yet! There may be spoilers in that thread. Oh, and Garrett definitely has a bit of a Bogart vibe, but Bogart's more crusty and steely and hard-boiled, whereas Garrett's more dark and cynically withdrawn. Bogart doesn't avoid confrontation like Garrett does; he seems more a 'rant and yell until they believe you don't love them', although Garrett pretty definitely has a streak like that in him somewhere that would come out if it got the opportunity. Bogart's eyes are indeed appealing... hmm... I wonder what Garrett's best feature is.
Dif... you make me laugh. And no, it's not the size of the... uh... weapon that counts. To be as delicate as possible... er, a small weapon is safer to handle than a really big weapon. Really big weapons could probably really HURT, i.e. a hammer wielded by a nine-to-seven-foot-tall cuddly religious fanatic can really damage an unwise, careless thief, as opposed to the far more effective and less bloody nasty mess of a gas arrow. And I can't speak further without losing all sense of decency and subtlety and tact, so I shall not elaborate. *chuckles*
SDM... well, some among us find them entertaining and fascinating! If only I could dance, I'd be frolicking with a moose right now. (innocently frolicking about in the everglades, in a friendly sort of way, so keep those minds polished and clean!)
Crusader... can't really speak for anyone but myself. *blanches* Did... did you say a cynical, soft-spoken, dark, quiet man who doesn't have any close friends, potentially has a sexy voice, and doesn't express feelings? Well, change that to hasn't yet learned to express feelings but might learn if approached by the right woman, and the answer is... *opens mouth to say the word, but promptly gets a silly look on her face and flops onto the floor with a sigh as if she'd just been blackjacked*

heh heh...
dont mean to be rude, but just on your last point Wynne...
Garrett lives in a quasi-medieval time, hence it would be very difficult for him to be converted to a SNAG (sensitive new age guy), coz he lives in an "old" age not a "new" age.....
Also, he is a professional criminal and hence would probably go along the lines of trying to pimp for girls rather than being overcome by his feelings and suddenly going into "Pride and Predjudice" (god i hate that book) raptures.

Dif, you've got a thing or two to learn about women. That's not intended an insult, just a rather wry observation. I'm ~not~ talking about a SNAG, nor a true romantic in the style of Jane Austen's characters. I despise the former; I'm not impressed by the melodramatic latter. Talking about your feelings doesn't make you a (forgive me) weak-willed, sniveling, whimpering pathetic mama's boy male of the 90's--although if circumstances were right, Garrett might become that, not that anyone would want him that way. I don't mean that. I mean, perhaps he could eventually be coaxed to at least somehow express what he's thinking/feeling. I can imagine him grudgingly muttering something vague under his breath in private if he felt it was necessary, not spouting passionate declarations of undying love--not his style. At the very least he could express himself with a look, and with actions, and perhaps even admit to himself that he isn't a complete bastard, although it would be a hard thing to swallow since he wants everyone to believe that, including himself. If Garrett did fall in love, it would have to take quite a circumstance, and I don't imagine him acting unlike himself--don't take this the wrong way. But I think he could fall in love. Think of what Little Girl Blue said... Bogart. He is so Bogart. Seems like a womanizer, seems hard-boiled and heartless, but truly is able to love deep down... so much so that despite never really giving up his tough outer layer, he nonetheless sacrifices his interests for the person he loves; is practically brutal with her just to keep her safe and give her the happiness with someone else she couldn't find with an unreliable undesirable such as himself.
*POTENTIALLY HUGE SPOILER AHEAD IF YOU HAVEN'T FINISHED T2*
And remember, as harsh as he is with plant girl in the second-to-last cutscene, his voice positively shakes with emotion when he finds out what a crazy suicidal thing he's done, and he rushes to the cathedral. Whether it was just friendship or some deep emotion he hadn't yet identified, he cared, big time, what happened to her. Enough to put his own life in serious danger by casting aside every thought besides getting to her and doing whatever he could to save her, or convince her to get away.

So, dif, you've shown everyone the reason why one would prefer a virtual Garrett to the real you...

This thread is very funny!

http://www.ttlg.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gifI think Garrett's general reluctance to kill and his *slight* inclination towards helping the forces of Good represent the very last shreds of emotion and morals that survived his years starvation and hardship as an orphan. Everybody he's ever known has lied to him and tried to use him...his distrust of everyone and everything borders on crippling pathology, and I think the betrayal of a woman he earnestly cared for might be the final straw that turns him into a complete sociopath.
No, Garrett's dark nature isn't the mask of a closet romantic because there's nobody around to be intrigued by it. He's been hurt by too many people for too long.
At least, that's what I think
