Not sure if there's a thread like this already but who's your favourite character in Thief: DS apart from Garret. My favourite would have to be Dyan mainly because the Pagans are my favourite faction with their strange speech and nature stuff.

The old hag... Mutated version.
OK. I suppose it was that ghost girl, then the old hag.

The stupid guard with the dodgy hand was pretty damn funny

I'd have to say Dyan, as well.
And Marla, the shopkeeper fangirl, always cracked me up. :D Carmen was funny as well. "The love stone above the door turned red when you entered..." :cheeky:

Character, for me, implies that there is a history to the person, not just what you can glean from seeing them pace around, making the occasional idle comment. There are precious few examples of decent characterisation in the game...
Garrett's own history,
Bloodline family feud,
The Cradle inmates
...maybe one or two more. The note you find on the upper floor of the Pagan Sanctuary, detailing how they came to inhabit it, is a lot more evocative than anything else you see, there. As for Dyan and Larkspur, I resented getting that far into the game to discover such non-characters. Dyan circles in a corner talking to herself, and her second-in-command manages to sleep 24 hours a day, while the faction is supposed to be conducting a guerilla war against the Hammerites. Effing nonsense...
The Hag herself is just Hansel and Gretel, with a Keeper twist. Your average ten-year-old could have come up with a better antagonist.
Given that, I'd say my favourite character in the game is one we never see, Patient 9 from The Cradle [A. Wrenfield - the pyromaniac]. Purely for the moment when the player discovers
the lone chair facing the burned-out Staff Tower.
That's effective characterisation.
Credit the player with some intelligence, give them some clues about backstory, and lead them to a moment where "it all slots in place".
See also Mosely from Thief II, or Viktoria/Constantine in the original. Aside from that one moment in The Cradle, there's nothing which is as well-crafted in DS.

Dyan. First start, she's a Pagan, and I lóve the Pagan faction. Second, she's not completely evil, she's kind of compassionate, instead of Larkspur and stuff...

I'd have to say Artimus, for no real reason other then that I love the Keepers.

I love the Pagan's most of all. I found them funny. Even some of the guards, with their conversations as well.
The "Burricks". I loved the "burricks".:D
