What´s your favourite enemeys in the original Thief trilogy and Shadows of the metal age? Edit: FM enemeys are also allowed!
Mine would be:
Haunt-in every game. Just creepy and every time I see some make ready for a fight. The Haunt was sadly underused in the last 2 games (but I like the redesign in Deadly shadows)
Treebeast-just appears in one area but that may be the most scary area in Thief 2. They are really though and make for a good challenge
Puppets-they are actually the haunt replacement in the cradle. Plus the creepy light flickering make them to the 2nd scariest enemy in the whole trilogy. And the fact that you can read about their illnesses makes them only scarier.
Bluecoats/City watch: They are actually just tougher guards, but they make for some hilarious moments.
What I would have nearly forgotten are the Krushok. The got a neat design and their lost city home is really great to wander in.
FMs: Mummies and ghosts from "Beneath the sands" ´Mummies are actually pretty easy to outsmart or kill, but the ghosts are indestructible so they are a good challenge.

Similar to yours, Haunts, Treebeast, Puppets and the shadow ghosts from the Cradle. And of course Benny!

I think many people in the community would have lists that mirror yours; those enemies are so iconic.
Just to be different (cuz I'z a hipster) I'll give mention to Craymen from TDP (simply for the 'wth is that?' factor the first time you encounter one), the Masked Servants/Guards from TMA (may their tortured voices one day leave my nightmares...) and the Kurshok from DS, many clicks for them (can some Taffer plz make a T2 compatible skin/AI for these guys? A whole underwater mission renaissance is being held back here!).
Also honourable mention to the Statues from Deadly Shadows, sure they were no puppets but I challenge any Taffer not to have turned to the climbing gloves and gone full spider to escape when they hear: "rend and tear and tear and share and share and care and care and bear and-"
If I may I'll also throw in some custom enemies from FMs to spice things up:
The first encounter with a Bogey in Benny's Dead (especially considering the first readable about them you find).
Anything moving (far too fast) in the Dark Zone from Ink and Dust.
Acolytes from Thief 2X (ghosted them on my playthrough for maximum effect...and fear of how easily they could 'ghost' me...)
The one who shouts "I see you thief!" from Inverted Manse; any who have seen him know why he's so impressive.
Sure there're many more but my memory fails, hopefully the rest of the community will take up the slack.
Hmmm...do I detect a correlation between 'best' enemies and 'scariest' enemies here?
P.S. Not really an enemy but a atmospheric encounter came when I played Ura and looked into the wall of vines nearby the characters home.

I really liked the Hand Mages and their echoey voices. But for me the best enemy AI were just the plain old guards - I loved listening to them mumble to themselves about "someday I'm not going to be a guard any more" or "when are they going to bring me my dinner" or "what's that smell? It can't be me, I washed a few days ago" or whatever. Their comments just never get old when I'm sneaking around behind them. Great entertainment.

Haunts definitely

Any and all haunts, just because they were so challenging.
Puppets. Need I say more?
The statues from TDS. Both because they were scary, and because it was a blast leading them into groups of guards.
Drk's "babies" from his rocksbourg series. God, just thinking of those things sends a shiver down my spine. Same goes for the similar creatures from Eclipsed.
All the guards for the same reasons Brethren gave, but particularly "smart guard" and Benny.
The stained glass haunts from The abominable Dr. Dragon. Just because they were awesome.

*Haunts by obvious iconic reasons stated by others.
*Hand Brotherhood mages - their voice! <- number 1 favourite :cheeky:
*The fire engulfed spirits from Thief TDP Gold edition, unsure if they are in the original version, their presence gives you the shivers and if used sparsly that more fear enducing.
*Basic Benny-like guards (lots of them in Thief 2), both the ones drunk and those who enduce hilariously non sensical conversations, they never get old to listen for especially if they mumble on their own or so they think.
*Doctors from the Shalebridge Cradle
From fan missions the only ones that really stands out for me are hard to say as I dont know their names but I can describe them, but its just three AI's.
*First one is the zombies reskinned into mummies that leave shrieking cries, so I guess they are mummies.
*From Rocksbourg series but lately not exclusive as I seen in other FMs the more I've played, the weird dark, ghoul and/or malformed things that I assume are reskinned Treebeasts and heavily remodified.
*Very large and tall like AI that wields a heavy-like weapon, gives the striking look for an executioner and has been seen in more than just a few FMs but I dont know what to call him by other than an executioner nor guess if its an existing AI asset thats either heavily remodified or if 100% a custom created one.

Haunts are really memorable, but my absolute favorites would be the Thief 1 Hammerites. I love these guys, I love listening to them and I love their KO sounds.

Those monkeys in Escape are hilarious and creepy too. I'd like to be one of them, seriously!
