Yes I find myself falling in-and-out of playing Thief. What causes it is getting stuck at 'difficult missions'; and not wanting to do zombie-infested missions.

but loading up an old mission (no matter how good) just makes this sense of been-there-done-that wash over me because I've played them so many times.
I know you said before you're not fond of it, but I suggest you try ghosting one of the FMs you replay. Sometimes the mission gets entirely different. (I had that for example while ghosting the Harrogate Museum in
Broken Triad, or
Amoral Dilemma.) Give it another try! :)

I, too, have time periods when there's not much else than Thief missions which gets played, and then there are times when there's no thiefy stuff at all for a longer time. At the moment, for example, I'm playing something else I bought last week, instead of Thief. The reasons for going away from Thief for a while are usually a bit complicated. This time, we have a computer virus in the local net; there are problems between Thief, my main machine and Windows versions, and then there's my interest in playing Oblivion as well, and all of these things played some part in getting me away from Thief for a while.
But I'm sure there will be a turn of the tide again in some time...

My passion for thief has dropped completely as well, tho it should come back soon, just like everything else. It's an impulsive matter and depends on how fast you are bored of things. I see the pattern more clearly than ever. I'm tired of life itself right now, but the love for life shall come back again, so I will be ready to fight it again. All the same with Thief. Except each time the circle gets a little shorter... like a spiral...

It's sorta like catnip. You give a cat a bit, he's all crazy. And a minute later, he's entirely put out. But try again later; he'll be at it again... Jumping around the house, living out his peyote fantasies...
But whats this got to do with me playing Thief? Absolutely nothing...
Except that, well... I sometimes lose the craving to play Thief... Then and again there's either alot of stuff I'm doing, or an FM that's not to my liking, has turned me off completely from playing Thief, and it takes a bit of rest and watching film noir to get me going again...
So yeah, Like BrokenArts said, it eb and flows...

It is absolutely normal for something to get dull after doing it for such a long time. Everyone needs change to feel motivated and happy. But the Thief magic consists in it ALWAYS bringing people back. Weather its the OM missions, new FM content, DromED contests or ideas, the community is always keeping the train moving after so many years.
I've been playing the OMs so many times that I don't do that anymore (I never thought this will come to past). But I have played a fraction of the FM content and there are just a ton of unbelievably awesome missions out there.

every 2 or 3 years i load it up and play thru all 3 games, takes a few months of fooling around and relearning and remembering things.

Yeah, I've replayed all of the games at least once a year since they each came out. Just set myself up with a nice KVM switch a few days ago, so I can fire up my Old Games PC without having to reconnect everything, meaning that I'll probably be playing much more often now. :thumb:

I'm like Peeper... I have 3 systems hooked up with a KVM and run one of the 5 versions (6 now that TDS is out) at least once a week.
I've played many of the FMs (I have two of the early KOMAG compilations) and try to catch the newer ones as they come out.
In the last month or so I've not had a lot of time to play due to dealing with my wife's estate, but have no doubt I'll be back.
As was mentioned in another thread, I always seem to find some little thing I overlooked in one or more of the missions. This always surprises me because I am anal about inspecting every square centimeter of a room or area when I play.
Can't be the glasses, or lack thereof, that made me miss them the first time through. As a Beta tester for many, I have a tendency to be excessively picky about wringing everything out of a mission I can and by forcing the map beyond its offered limits.
And if I can find a copy of DOOMIII I'll be doing the same with Darkmod.
