So everyone has those; the little things they do perhaps daily, perhaps weekly, but eitherway, the day just feels somewhat incomplete without them; even when you almost forget, there's always that time when an irresistible urge strikes you to do your thing. And while it could have been just a normal thing everyone does, somehow in your case it just goes that teeny bit further into a quirky category.
For me, I will start off with a pretty-normal-but-turned-kinda-weird ritual of my own - my daily cup of tea and coffee. I never used to drink those in college, and neither keeps me up at night. But somehow, due to my British roommate's always offering to make a cuppa, and the sensation of coldness after coming back from the ever-cold-and-rainy Belfast, a hot cup of tea or coffee in otherwise chilly environment is a daily must.
But after a while this turned from just "oh tea" to "the tea." You know, the time of day hits me, usually after getting a bunch of work done, where I absolutely must sit down at my comp to check TTLG/news/other sites I browse, a relaxing activity of some sort, cover myself with a blanket, and slowly sip on the just-boiled cup. And here where it gets almost weird, I'll sometimes will go as far as open up windows in advance so my room gets cold and I can enjoy the warm tea more. And always, after letting the tea brew for a few minutes, I'll pop it into the microwave for a few seconds so it's on that near-boiling-point hot. Yes, it cools too much during the brewing process. I've also been getting up earlier for no other reason than to enjoy my hot morning milk tea while it's still cold outside from the night..

I need to read the paper when I'm eating at the kitchen. Need. Doesn't matter what time of day it is -- if I'm eating at the kitchen table there damn well better be a fucking newspaper in my hand. This habit is well over 15 years old.

I don't know if any part of my day is particularly quirky. I do drink coffee more as a ritual now more than anything else, now that you mention it, a hot cup in the morning and an iced one in the evening.
Ah, I tend to go outside and walk a big circuit to clear my mind a lot ... every city I've lived in I've done that... In Austin I'd walk from Jester to the capital and back, in Haifa down Mt Carmel and back, on Tsushima up Mt Kamiagata, in NYC up Broadway from 3rd St to about 28th St and back, in DC loops around the National Mall, in Maryland a nearby nature path. Walking is so important to me I wrote a damn (

I time my alarm to go off either 6.5 or 8 hours from when I go to bed, aiming to be awake as near to 6:30 am as possible, on the understanding that it takes me roughly 30 minutes to read a chapter of a book, settle in and drift off and that I try to get either 4 or 5 full REM cycles (roughly 90 minutes per cycle) in so as not to wake from too deep a sleep. I then have sultana bran and a cup of tea, drink a protein shake, make my sandwiches and go the gym on my way to work, shower at work, arrive at desk around 9-10 am, depending on workout (I am a PhD student, so time can be flexible). When I get home, I relax in front of the internet with a cup of decaff coffee until I get hungry, then I cook some dinner, eat it, skype my girlfriend, play games or do other leisure things before having another protein shake and go to bed around 22:30 - 00:00. Weekends are more freeform, but since the PhD started getting intense, this has been my daily routine to the letter. Without it, I don't get enough work done, or stay sane.

I time myself while I brush my teeth before bed. Three minutes. And I browse the Internet while I do it. Not that strange, but I don't think it's quite usual.

Mine usually involves telling people on the internet that I really need to go make some tea because I just woke up GOD DAMMIT, and then continuing to sit and yammer on at them anyway.

Porridge with honey and a good coffee. Then a shower, brushing teeth in the shower. Radio 4 comes on as my alarm, stays on the whole time til just before I leave.
