Porridge + sultanas is my weekend breakfast of choice. Tastes great, is great for you and makes you feel full up until lunch time.

Porridge? Huh? What are you, one of The Three Bears?

The short version: porridge is UKish for oatmeal.

I need to read the paper when I'm eating at the kitchen.
Need. Doesn't matter what time of day it is -- if I'm eating at the kitchen table there damn well better be a fucking newspaper in my hand. This habit is well over 15 years old.
Hah I've developed that with TV show. Unless I am with people or eating out, I absolutely must be watching something while I eat. As my food finishes cooking I'll actually pull up the next episode of How I Met Your Mother fullscreen on my laptop and set it facing the chair so that as soon as I start eating I can start watching RIGHT NOW.
Also, I will usually do the dishes while cooking and always finish them before I eat. I hate the idea of having a full sink I need to clean after eating, uggh!
Yea I'm kinda weird about food : |

Oh ya. I know it's probably a terrible habit because OH GOD CARBS, but if it's really late and I am crashing in the next hour or so but feel starving, nothing makes a yummier night meal than a small bowl of hot oatmeal, mmm!

I have since the age of twelve, practically every morning, had my toast and marmite. Now I eat two soft boiled eggs, with marmite on toast and two coffees. I'll be an old man, eating it the same way.

Ditto. I don't even eat at a table any more, just put an episode of whichever series I am currently watching on and eat my way through it.

There's nowt wrong with carbs. A balanced diet requires a certain percentage of your energy intake to be carbs, else your metabolism makes up for it in deleterious ways, such as deamination of amino acids to provide energy intermediates, leading to a build up of nitrogenous waste which gives your kidneys what for. This is why the Atkins diet is fucking terrible for health.
However, there are good and bad carbs. God ones, like in porridge make your digestive system jump through a few hoops to get at the energy, so you get a gradual drip feed of energy and you blood sugar doesn't spike so hard, trigger insulin release and increase conversion of surplus saccharides into glycogen then fat. Eat a bag of crisps (or chips, for the US) or a chocolate bar though, and you get more energy than you know what to do with in a short space of time, leading to an insulin spike and all of the spare energy getting stored. Hence the crash you get after an hour or so where you feel hungry again. This is why the GI diet makes more biological sense for controlling weight / type II diabetes.

Oh yea I know carbs are necessary, I meant lots of carbs right before you sleep which, as many will say, is supposed to be bad for you (well, worse than eating protein/fat instead).

If I'm not up late, I wake up 4:55 am (airs 7pm in it's original zone) five days a week to watch Day9 speak about Starcraft for an hour. There's no point, because the shows are viewable from archives, but it's nice to see it live.
