Remote Rope Arrow Suitability Evaluator. - Will that board thing at the top of the bookshelf take a rope arrow or will it annoyingly just absorb the darn thing? Finally, you can be sure with the Remote Rope Arrow Suitability Evaluator. Available at Tafmart for only 14.95
The Impressively Complicated Major Distraction Device. - This might be something that you can put together with loose doorhandles, picks, shovels, gears and robot parts - powered by flashbombs or something. Are you in a marble floored nightmare of a mansion crawling with guards? Assemble the major distraction device out of found objects and few items you've brought along, then set it loose to go charging through the halls making a terrific racket, (maybe even some new robot dialogue) eventually crashing through the front doors with most of the enraged guardforce on it's heels. Use it to give yourself enough time to search some rooms, thin the remaining guardforce and maybe turn off that annoying watcher system they just installed.
Other distracting devices can be remote controled harlots (to your eye they're rather obviously robots) who's path you can plot out - or the false Benny, a robot Benny guard that relieves key individuals of their post. Robot Benny is ridiculously robotic looking to you, but he still manages to lure skeptical but stupid guards away from their post after some comical dialogue. No one ever seems to notice the fire pot on his backside or the little puffs of steam he occasionally issues.
The False Book Detector for those gigantic libraries with miles of shelves you just don't feel like searching through. Shine your False Book Detector Beam (requires you to wear special glasses) (effective range - 20 yards) at the shelves and the frobbable books glow like bioluminescent mushrooms.
Give them the urge to pee with Professor Karn's patented Pee Pee Dance Dust Arrow. Got a couple of guards blocking a well lighted door? Shoot them with a Pee Pee Dance Dust and they'll go looking for a dark, discrete spot to relieve themselves.
"Guess I shoulda said no to that second cup of coffee."
Don't forget to keep your blackjack handy.

just once I'd like to see this
Garrett sneaks up behind a lone archer and pickpockets their arrows
Garrett moves around in front of the archer
"ahaaaaa got you now thief" says the archer and readies their bow "... what the taff!, where are my arrows!.... HELP HELP THIEF" archer runs away for help

Shirikens. Painted black. Covered in knock-out poison. That you can prick yourself on if you're a clumbsy monkey.

I agree with that. Irks me the way they can shoot you when you just plucked all their arrows from their quiver. What are they shooting with? Blanks? :P

I think the idea is Garrett only robs a couple poking out - if he lifted the lot, the weight difference would be too noticeable. It's probably possible to do that setup in Dromed though - frobbing the arrow could probably trigger a change in AI behaviour so they acted like weaponless servants. It'd need a lot of new voice work though - otherwise they'd yell "Here's an arrow for ya!" while legging it round the corner...

Why didn't I think of that? The first time I played T2, I thought, 'great! I took all his arrows!' and proceeded to be turned into a pincushion.

Garrett always has had a short-bow. In the TDP manual, it says "A blackjack and a short-bow are also part of your arsenal."
Okay, okay. I still think a crosbow could be made smaller...

I haven't been on these forums in about 2 years, I actually checked my last log in date and it was december 3rd 2005, which coincidently is the day I met the girl I'm getting married to next year. I can now associate yet another thing in my life with the Thief series!
But anyway, mushy stuff aside, I can't believe that in all my years of taffing about, I never realised that you could pickpocket arrows from concious guards! Is this possible in all the Thief games? I've had to format my computer recently, so I'm going to have to reinstall and get my blackjack on!
As for a gadget I think would be cool, I'd have to say a rocket launcher:thumb: Just kidding.
Seriously though, Id like to see a grappling hook as well, you'd have to be careful about using it without alerting nearby people due to the sound the hook would make when it hits concrete. I think that would be interesting to see in a mod or something. Sadly, I don't know a thing about the modding process:(
It's good to be back and to see this community is still going strong after all these years! I started coming to these forums when people still thought the graphics in TDP were awesome, so I'm guessing 8-10 years this forum has been going strong! Cheers!

how about a double ended rope arrow ?
shoot one end into some convenient nearby wood, shoot the other at some distant bit of wood, assuming it's in range, rope deploys between the two and goes tight, then you can go hand to hand along the rope and drop off in the middle if you want to
frob either end to pick it up again
you could even use it as a tripwire for pursuing guards, just shoot it into either side of a corridor
or shoot down a long corridor with traps triggered by pressure plate and traverse like the paratroops do to avoid them
or
a thermos of liquid nitrogen for pouring into those locks you can't pick and can't find the key for
wait ten seconds for the metal in the lock to become brittle, hit lock with BJ, door opens
or magnetic mines that will stick to any metallic object like the magic eyes, turrets, children of karras or metal doors then shoot the mine with a broadhead and boom

I want the double ended rope arrow now. I love that idea. I shall now throw my toys out of the pram until I get one. :D
