Well, that certainly was blasphemous of you.
Quite possibly the most powerful Thief experience was your first time in Bafford's falling down the well.
At least for me, that swim was the slowest swim in my life. So many powerful things on display. It made its mark to say the least.
btw, that little pirate-looking entrance is highly reminiscent of the game from the early 90's ....
Novice.
I demand that thou repent and complete Dark Project three times!
:p
To think that first mansion in Deadly was some folks intro to the series, well.

-The graphics were great
-I had great fun blackjacking someone then repeatedly picking them up & tossing them down again to see how many different positions their bodies would end up in.
-... erm ... ... there was something else, but I've forgotten.
Dislikes: (oh where to begin?!)
-No rope arrows and you don't get the climbing gloves til you're practically a millionaire, which, by then, you've totally forgotten where you saw that tall building that you wanted to climb because you were convinced you could get in through the door on the balcony, so you said fuck it all and your whole night was ruined and you decided to just quit playing and go to bed.
-The training mission was absolutely stupid! I couldn't opt to just go straight to the first mission.
-Garrett sinks like a rock in water. Game over. (Where does that get fun?)
-The Cradle.
-Loading time between levels made me feel like I was playing TR on my PS again.
-The game was overall waayyyyyy too linear; I couldn't just go exploring all the nooks & crannies etc., as was possible in the previous Thief games. Very frustrating indeed.
-Missions were way too short.
-The Cradle.
-Lackluster script/plot.
-The lockpick system: I swear I got killed about twenty times because it took so damned long to pick one lousy lock. And I'd already become quite profficient by that time.
-Oh yeah; and then there was The Cradle.

Now be fair.
TR loads quite quickly.

Well it does
now on my PS2. But the earlier versions of TR played on the old PS had agonizingly long loading times.
P.S. I feel it's only fair that I admit to the fact that I have the patience of a gnat. :o

Well there you go then.
It never bothered me, and I'm quite confident you could (on an old playstation) still load a level of TR faster than TDS...
:erm:
I may have to experiment.

Story was ok.
Cool lightning.
Dislikes,
Terrible AI.
No rope arrow.
Overall lack of polish and style.

I reckon that the OP isnt asking me why i like the thief series, but rather what i like/dislike in particular about TDS (i had to specify this, otherwise my post and it's ramblings would be pages long).
Keepsy (i'm happy with TDS):
1) The different city interludes inbetween missions -- while closing an eye (or two) on loading times -- the escapades you can make are just wonderfully effective in creating the feeling that you're a thief making it's living inside a sprawling metropole; ever busy and living (or unliving), even at night.
2) The great improvement of graphics in comparison to other episodes (i know some melancholic purists will disagree with me on this point), lighting-wise in particular. Take a look at the game's artworks, then look at how those concepts are realized ingame; it's just a gorgeous world in it's whole.
3) Simply put; the story!
No-Keepsy (only minor stuff):
1) The "blueish lightup" effect you get when selecting environment (bodies, levers, loot etc) for possible actions. I reckon that the game has to tell you what you're looking at to interact with, but please no X-ray kind of effects! It ruins the textures, too. This may seem stupid to some of you but for me it was a real show stopper in regards to immersion (it's fantasy and not sci-fi, for pete's sake).
2) A slightly wasted potential of the physics engine. I know there are some parts in the game where you can exploit your environment's reactions to get certain interesting results (oil on stairs, the killer clockworks) but that's just not enough. Be it clear, this isnt a major complaint; the game offers already a lot of creative interaction as it is, but there could be more.
3) Simply put; The Cradle -_-''

:)
1) More medieval setting.
2) Good backround music and sounds.
3) Story elements.
:(
1) Lack of colors. Everything was either blueish or plain gray and you couldn't tell if something was loot or junk at first.
2) Movement in 1st person is just horrible. This is the only reason I don't really play TDS anymore :p.
3) Bad character models (huuge open eyeballs, poor hair and beards )and physics.

Liked:
- The zoom is quite good;
- The sound was great, like in the first games;
- The 3rd person view. (YES, it's good to have options, the producers thought well that option and it is cool to actually see Garrett - please don't kill me);
- The City - wandering around was pretty damn fun;
- Guards expressions looked great (another thief trademark);
- Now you have something to do with your loot (ok, TDP and TMA had it already but it wasn't the same thing);
- Good story and a nice ending;
Disliked:
- No swimmable water -> how could this happen? what were they thinking? :mad:
- Faction status was way to easy. I think it was better if you really had to make a choice between the factions. For instance, if you helped the pagans, your hammerite status would decrease.
-
The final vilan is very typical. The ugly huge monster...bah.
