Would basically be an attempt to explain why folks at NMA and RPGCodex are dicks.
They're not though.

You know, dethtoll, that's actually a pretty interesting idea - broad enough to allow me to expand of contract it as necessary (it's really hard to figure out what, exactly, constitutes nine months worth of work). I only have a limited background in straight-up sociology, though, so that could be an issue, but it's definitely worth examining further.
Opinions on NMA/RPG Codex aside (I honestly don't really have one), I think it's interesting how polarizing these communities are. Well, NMA, anyway - I've never seen RPG Codex on this list.

I actually laughed out loud at this. :cheeky:

After careful consideration, I have decided to focus my study on Barkley, Shut Up and Jam! - Gaiden.

You should actually do this.
There's gotta be a pretty hefty study in why a small game with no funding that ripped off most of its art from Chrono Trigger absolutely destroys every single commercial attempt to release a 'comedy' game in the history of vidcons.

Doubt any academic comittee at Hampshire would go for it, but I do think the overarcing issues of comedy in games - i.e. it's the only medium without a healthy comedic tradition/presence - is an interesting one. I imagine it has something to do with interactivity vs. comic timing and stuff like that, but yeah, it's pretty damn weird.
I'm taking a course on screen comedies (i.e. comedic films with a little bit of television thrown in) next semester, which should give me some grounding in "reading" comedy.
