And if someone asked me to make a list of my five least-favorite OMs, I'll bet they'd be all from TMA.
I'm playing through Thief Gold, which makes Thief Dark Project the second time. I'd say Mages' Towers is one of my least favorites; just kind of dull. I love Caverns, though. A lot of fun. But yeah, I guess my other least faves would be from Metal Age, which isn't to say it's a bad game. Many of those missions have really stuck with me, like Life of the Party, of course, but Shipping and Receiving--a lot of people don't like it, but I freakin' loved it! So much exploring and figuring stuff out.

The Keeper could have told Garrett immediately that Karras was the person who hired Truart OR, as stated earlier, Garrett could have figured it out then and there.
Since when did the keeper's give straight answers to things? They asked garrett for help, he didn't want to, and they realised he needed to sort his stuff out and it would eventually lead him to his destiny (this was made more obvious to me after playing TDS). But yeh, a large portion of TDS revolved around the keepers screwing around with garrett.
As to the storylines, Randy said in an interview that TDP was levels wrapped around a storyline, and TMA was storyline wrapped around levels. Whilst this did mean that TDP had a better storyline, he felt that it was not as fun to play as TMA.
Why rob a bank? Are you crazy? Why wouldn't you want to rob a bank? Twas awesome

Yeah, I've gotta go with the crowd on this too and say TDP. Although I have to say that the first time I played through (and I played TDP and TMA one right after the other the first time through) I loved TMA, and even think I preferred it over TDP. In the beginning, I hated Bonehoard and all the undead; and TMA felt more thiefy. But as I've played them repeatedly, I appreciate the atmosphere in TDP. And if someone asked me to make a list of my five least-favorite OMs, I'll bet they'd be all from TMA.
No, actually - bonehoard, escape, strange bedfellows, soulforge, maw of chaos. That's four unfavourites from TDP there. I don't like the creature levels as I much prefer evading humans. Thief Gold was wise enough to add three human levels to balance it more, but I still feel that overall Thief 2 had the better mission sets. I am still torn between TG and TMA though as the TG story was better.

Uh, Soulforge wasn't in TDP.
CocoClown on 15/6/2006 at 15:15
The other four were though. I made the same mistake on my first read-through. He listed five levels, and four are T:DP
As for me, I'd agree with Strange Bedfellows, Escape and Maw of Chaos (I felt the entire 'end part' of Thief post RTC was a bit of a let-down level-wise), but I'd sub Thieve's Guild for Bonehoard, and I'd probably stick Running Interference in there instead of Soulforge. Not too fair maybe, as it's really a training mission...

TMA. TDP was great, but since I started NOT KILLING EVERYTHING, T2 is by far easier. When I'm around nonhumans I have this tendency to kill em all, then I wind up with 400+damage each level. Heh.

I agree somewhat with Necrovox; I don't think I really started getting into the whole 'stealth' thing until TMA. I loved TDP, which is why I ended up being addicted to the series as well all those wonderful FMs, but really felt more comfortable in TMA. Only I had the exact opposite reaction - I killed everybody and everything in TDP. I learned how valuable the blackjack really was in TMA and how to ghost on certain missions.
Now I'm feeling compelled to go back and play the three games from the beginning.

Of the original games: TDP/G has a better story (far more epic and engaging), and TMA has better controls, slightly better graphics, etc.
As far as just playing the originals, I guess TG has my vote. But when you weigh in the amazing numbers and quality of T2 FM's... it's a toss up.
I purchased T2 on Amazon.com (used) for $1.99 back in 2003. Best 2 bucks I ever spent! Got TG for $10 about a year later. (Had only played TDP up to then.) When I was looking for T2, though, TG was going for between $30-50 on amazon and ebay. (I'm glad they re-released it!)

Ok, then, I'll put my money where my mouth is and list my five least-favorite OMs from TDP/G and TMA:
Soulforge - tedious, long, bleak, you get the idea
Casing the Joint - big, empty, unfinished mansion that has the undesirable effect of making you *not* look forward to Masks, even though Masks itself is a fine mission
Kidnap - blecch, Mechanists in the Lost City!
Shipping & Receiving - I just don't really like warehouses; plus running around constantly entering codes was annoying
Strange Bedfellows - thankfully, this mission is short. It's actually probably a tie between this one and Framed or Running Interference, but just to be honest I figured I'd list a TDP mission that always annoys me.
So that's my list -- for now. It tends to change somewhat. I hated the beast missions too, at first, and that burrick section of the lost city *still* annoys me because I can't ghost it, but I can't understand how Into the Maw of Chaos could appear on someone's least favorite list! In my mind, that's probably the perfect capstone mission to any game I can think of -- far superior to Soulforge or the T3 ending (of course). It's a 45-minute romp through some nice scenery and challenging terrain. It wouldn't end up on my MOST favorite list, either (I do love missions like Ambush!, First City Bank & Trust, and LotP), but each to his own I guess.
