Although I like TDP's atmosphere a lot, I enjoyed playing TMA more. Probably because I don't like undead missions much, it makes stealth next to impossible. I thought the TG missions were pretty fun though! In the end, my vote goes to TMA. :)
BTW, I have to thank DarthMRN and Strontium Dog for their highly amusing performance. Goldmoon Dawn's final remark on the subject gave me a real good laugh too. Thanks guys! You made my day! ;)
[I probably shouldn't have said any of that, but I couldn't resist! ;) :) ]

It is never as good as the first time - and I played Thief Gold first. I'll never forget that fascination.
It wasn't ever replaced by any other game from the top of my hitlist. :)

Hush! This thread is obviously meant for the most recent additions to our fold. Leave them alone.
That goes for the rest of you as well. Anyone who have ever participated in such a poll, or registred prior to 2005, be nice and don't interfere.
Seriously. You're scaring away the newbies.
So, he can't give an opinion? Hmm? He
WAS being nice. There is this thing called the search function on the forum, it is useful, and it does come in handy every now and then. Give it a try.
This thread lacks pollage, verbal yes, actual pollage, it lacks.
TDP for an answer.

but T2 was my first ever theif title, got it on an Eidos demo cd in the late 90's, around the time Ultima IX: Ascension was first being developed..
Actually, Ascension was on my computer in around October of 99'. Thief II was released the same day as Might Magic VIII - Feb 2000.
Details.

well, youve also got to note that back then, and even now, i was broke as hell. so i couldnt afford up-2-date info like others, and i got Ascension in like, 2000/2001. i remember NOT sleeping for about a week during the summer playing it. kinda like what went on when NoX was a popular game, i practically didnt sleep for the entire summer that year. the only times i took a break was when i either had to eat, drink, or use the crapper, and i got like 4-5 hours of sleep a week. i was a one-man-team back then with my Warrior, i remember on several occasions, my team abandoning me and STILL winning when the other team had like 16-24 other players, i was THAT good, although i fucking SUCKED with any form of magic. :laff: ahh, what i would give to live in that time period forever... playing NoX, listening to heavy metal, pwning n00bs and 1337's with wild abandon. the first days of "Tyrant the Destroyer / Tyranthax", my first alias.

Metal Age was my "gateway drug" to the Thief universe. I could relate to Garrett's last words of that final cutscene, I wanted more. It led me to TTLG. Eventually I played Dark Project and found out how Garrett lost his eye before Karras hooked him up with the mechanical one.
They all have their merits, but Metal Age will always be my first love.:p

Hmm I think I would have to choose TMA because I felt the level design was better and so was the gameplay. I mean we got to climb across rooftops, that was so cool!
And I think the storyline was almost on a par with TDP, not AS good, but good enough that with the improved gameplay I think it just edges in front.
Plus I hate zombies!
Which I suppose you could argue is a good thing cause they are meant to be scary, but they just made me want to stop playing everytime there was a "zombie" mission.
Karras is also so hilariously mental, he was a really fun nemesis.
Not that the Trickster isn't also cool but really the only interaction Garrett has with him is pretty brief, whereas in TMA, Karras is introduced quite early and you feel like you know alot more about him. He plays a much bigger part in the game and is therefore, I think, a more effective villain.

When forced to choose between the two I'd propably go for TDP. It has the best intro ever, the Bonehoard, Old Quarter and the Cathedral (including the haunts), Constantine and Viktoria (with their pets) and the scheming PLOT with many surprises.
In MA was Father Karras (and his magnificient recordings!), more realistic missions and the epic Soulforge. But all the same the game very little explaned what Garrett was doing and why. And one mad power-hungry villain isn't as great as "the associates".

I have to agree with jtr7; TMA will always be my first love. Though I played TDP when it first came out and that game started my addiction, it was TMA that intrigued me and eventually led me to TTLG. (And I'm not leaving, so there!)
I prefer the improved graphics, gameplay, level designs, etc. of TMA (rooftop missions have always been my favorites!). I've always felt that the machines (the big ones) were more of a challenge as well. Plus, I abhor the undead and thank God TMA kept those to a minimum. I can identify with your feelings on the subject, Suriana! (My experiences with T2X still give me nightmares!)
I've been thinking lately that this next winter would be a good time to go back and play all three games. Now that's something to look forward to! :thumb:
