You're right about basing an opinion on a review, which is why I'd rather read multiple reviews and check off all the bits they agree on to form a workable impression.
A demo of the game that lasts more than 5 minutes (provided there's a demo at all) helps quite a bit, but we've long since left the glory days of shareware behind.

That's the point. There are no reviews. The fucking game is not even out yet.
Actually buying a game based solely on a review is risky to say the least, but pre-purchasing is downright stupid thing to do.
Right, we are pretty much on the same page. I think my sarcasm detector is packing up.
As for Zeno Clash itself; I love the art direction, and it looks as if it has plenty of interesting ideas behind it. I just need to know that it's not a perpetual brawl. I don't mind paying full price for something that I know I want to play.

so is it out yet ? I'm in japan and steam went crazy and doesn't let me buy anything because my country and their currency don't match up (i get suddenly shown everything in dollars) but I can't tell steam that I'm not at home so ... well, it's a drag.

Not out until late April.

The brawling looks repetitive but probably fun. Does anyone else get a serious Dark Crystal vibe from the art/character/sound design?

I don't really see a problem with that, given the game's apparent length.

3) Q: So, how long is the game?A: The game lasts from 4-5 hours in the single player campaign. It also includes a unlockable Survival Mode with a ranking system to extend replayability.

I never felt fatigue set in from the repetition of Condemned's combat, because the immersive atmosphere brought by that game's design and art direction was so bloody good.

Yeah, as long as the combat feels solid, is fun and avoids the clunkiness that usually accompanies FPP melee, I really don't repetition will be a factor in a 4-5 hour game with interesting art direction. Hopefully, though, there is enough downtime between battles for a little soaking up of the ambience etc.

I got to play this for about five minutes at their IGF booth.
Mini-review for the mini-playtime:
Great art, but we all knew that. Voice acting was kind of dodgy. Melee was solid, probably the most fun I've had with FPS melee. It uses a Zelda-esque enemy targeting system, which helps ensure your punches go where you want them to.
Verdict: Yeah, I think I might preorder this.
