This may be just what I've been waiting for.

I can see how this might be a great game let down by the melee, which will end up as all other First-person melee-games, where you repeat one stronger punch and back away and punch again...ad infinitum.

So you didn't play Condemned, I take it?

I like what I see, I just wish the gameplay wasn't all about the beat-em-up. Hopefully there'll be more to it than just that.

There's guns, too!
But yeah, the bit that I played was combat focused enough that it had blatantly obvious arenas, with "Opponents this round" style popups before each fight. And as far as I know, that was in the game proper.
That said, it didn't seem out of place, and the combat really is solid. I was only two fights past of the tutorial though, so who knows what changes happen in the game after that first sequence (which I didn't finish)?

Pre-ordered and with my delicate hopes duly pinned onto its piss-stained flanks, I await the release of this game with an anticipation I haven't felt in ages. It actually looks interesting! Like a product of creative thought rather than market research! Fuck, I hope its good.

Agreed. Only a few more days until it releases too. I'm looking forward to it.

The (

Looks like a keeper; I can certainly live with the niggles mentioned in the review (and let's face it, I'm more intrigued about this game due to the levels of bright, brilliant insanity pervading its every pixel). More opinions should be pouring in come Tuesday.
