I hate hate hate the lock-on feature.
It severely limits my mobility while it's on, and I can never lock on to the people I want to (very limited range, automatically cancels if you backstep) or avoid locking onto the people I don't. The only reason to use it is if you accidentally attack someone while not locked on you deliver a single slow punch rather than a combo then get the shit kicked out of you. Just let me throw triple-punches while not locked on, and I'll happily ignore the entire system.

Riddick's designers realized this, and gave you stealth options to avoid have to go hand to hand with hordes.
Actually what Riddick did was, in fine film fight sequence tradition, make it you could only be attacked by one enemy at once. They all take turns beating you up, swapping in and out to give you the illusion of fighting mulitple enemies at once. Except on the hardest skill in which case they all pile in!
I've noticed that Zeno Clash has a similar system sometimes. Quite often only one enemy engages you and they swap in and out but sometimes it does get crazy, especially with ranged weapons thrown in the mix, and they all pile in. While I do agree that some fights are more than a little unfair, and some more moves for dealing with more than one foe would be welcome, I quickly figured out various strategies for dealing with multiple opponents: Keep moving, shoulder charge enemies with guns, get the heavy enemies to hurt the others and throw/kick the bastards into each other at every opportunity! The last one has become easier now they I've figure out the 'hidden' three punch combo: Instead of holding mouse 1 down for 3 punches, hold it for two and then click mouse 2 for a quicker than normal haymaker. Nailing the block attack + kick and dodge attack (with full stamina) + counter moves also makes things easier against multiple opponents since they send the enemy flying backwards, often into his mates.

new patches let you manually lock on (you can turn off autolock in options) and with block you can throw your weapon which is pretty sweet, I launched my fishguns a few times into enemies that were trying to tease me with bad language :)
I agree about the 1on1 fight mechanics for 1 on 3/4/5 fights lacking, they could have done more, right now you can only throw a stunned enemy into others. but having to switch enemies and picking the right one (usually the one hiding in the back, aiming his gun) is also a challenge in some ways.

I liked the strategy involved in fighting multiple opponents, what I didn't like is having to spend 90% of my attention on making sure none of them get a gun.

(
http://blogs.aceteam.cl/zenoclash/index.php?showentry=30) Other games ACE Team worked on. The concept of Zenozoik was great, I hope Zeno Clash can generate enough money to motivate the devs into making a full-scale action/RPG sequel set in the same universe. One can only hope...

Dark Conjunction was kinda annoying in a lot of ways, but also frustrating because it starts so well and has a lot of great stuff about it (it was never finished. what you get is a disjointed set of levels). I'd love to see them do that again.
Anyway I just got the demo for this. It pretty cool. I didn't like it at first, but then I started to get the hang of it and it ends! Of all the dirty tricks. The way the story is told is pretty unusual as well, and effective. I presume that continues in the full version?

yes, it does. if found the story itself not that involving but the presentation of it along with the visual style and - for me - statisfying combat made it a memorable and awesome game. I can only recommend it and if you like the demo already ....

Anyone think Ghat sounds kinda like Clint Eastwood?

Toggling tunnel vision on a single opponent does precisely jack shit to address the fact they made a game about 1 vs 3 combat and only gave you 1 on 1 moves.
I've only played through on the normal difficulty, but this never seemed to be an issue for me once I got used to the system.

The lock-on is pretty much identical to Severance. After a while you get the hang of it as a way to circle around someone with a minumum of keys. In Severance I think many of the good moves wouldn't work if you weren't locked on. Doesn't seem to be the case here which is cool. I can sidestep and rabbit-punch people quite nicely.
The combat does seem quite pleasingly solid. The speed is a little slow at first, but it seems like they've balanced it so that's how fast the combat is. In Dark Messiah it always felt like you were too slow for some things (and it seems like part of it being a more varied game). This is...different, I dunno exactly. Don't try and out pace it, stay calm, take your time and you will prevail (more like Severance in that regard). So it's not a ninja/matrix sim. I hope the rest keeps that up.
I presume it is mostly fights in small arena-ish areas. That and the AI getting lost or stuck on things is a bit of a worry. But I can see why they'd limit it in certain ways.
