Didn't I once see a resource or method where you could get access to the raw WAV files in the original games? I really would like one of the good Zombie groans or a couple of the good guard quotes to have on my PC as sound schemes or something, just for fun, not for profit. Is that available? I only want a couple of good ones.

Look in your Thief directory for a folder called crfs for T1 or RES for T2. The snd.crf has the games audio. All those .crf files are simple .zip files so rename snd.crf to snd.zip and extract. Inside there you will see many folders called thief, zombie etc. Poke around until you find what you need. Just remember to rename the snd foler back to .crf when you're done.

I created a Windows sound schema that used Benny voices for most system events, but never released it as I couldn't figure out how to export the sound profile (you probably can't), and I didn't want people to have to manually do it.
Besides, I could only stand it for a few days at a time.

No, do not smegging well rename them. Just double-click on them and then tell Windows to always open that file type with whatever your archive manager of choice is.

There's really no reason not to rename them, though, since Dark will gladly read snd.zip instead of snd.crf.
IIRC, if you associate non-zip files with the built-in Windows XP zip handler, it won't work properly.
Not that the built-in handler is particularly good, but I think it still beats WinZIP.

Interesting. All this time and we've been telling people to create a file association. So "now" there's one more method. Thanks.:thumb:

I still favor just leaving the filenames alone. It's asking for less trouble all around.
